Amara Mansare - BIG Originals

From Mariama Camara's class Mon 7/13/09 10:30 am.

This Picasa album has 4 large originals and 8 closer crops. These were quick crops on Monday, so the pictures could probably be improved. I haven't yet monkeyed with the pictures to adjust exposure, sharpness, contrast, etc... (the usual photoshop/iPhoto stuff).

In this blog, click on the photos to see larger 1024x768 versions.

Go to the Picasa album to see the larger originals (click on the magnifying glass in the upper-right corner just above the pictures).

Camera was a PowerShot S5 ($280). Photos were 1/160 sec, ISO 80, F4.0, 2448x3264, 3.5 MB.

Most African dance needs at least 1/160 sec for clean shots of hands & feet, and some quick dancers need 1/200 sec or faster. The Canon PowerShot S5 looks ok at ISO 400, but is too grainy at ISO 800-1600. It's an improvement over my $180 Canon A540 (stolen in Brussels), which could only shoot ISO 200 before becoming too grainy. It would be nice to shoot with a larger lens at ISO 1600-3200... :-)
